Description |
The importance of nitrogen oxides as an atmospheric pollutant has been recognized relatively recently. The past decade has, therefore, seen an intensive effort expended at identifying the major sources of nitrogen oxides, understanding the mechanisms of their formation. and developing technology for abatement of emissions from the dominant sources. The emissions from mobile sources are adequately covered elsewhere in this series. Coverage in this article will therefore be restricted to stationary sources, with extensive reference to the U.S. scene for which the pertinent data are most readily available.
